1. What Are Cookies

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, phone, or tablet) when you visit a website. They help websites remember your preferences, keep you signed in, and understand how visitors use the site.

Some cookies are strictly necessary for the site to function — without them, certain features won't work. Others help us improve your experience by showing us how the site is used, so we can make it better. This policy explains exactly which cookies and similar browser storage mechanisms My Life History uses and why.

2. Cookies We Use

My Life History uses two categories of cookies and one type of browser storage:

Strictly Necessary Cookies

Amazon Cognito, our authentication provider, places secure session cookies when you sign in to the My Life History app at app.mylifehistory.xyz. These cookies keep you authenticated between pages and are essential for the app to function. They are first-party cookies set by the Cognito domain associated with your account, with a session-length or short-term expiry. These cookies cannot be disabled without breaking the ability to sign in.

Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics 4 (GA4, tag ID: G-MM083N3YSN) to collect pseudonymized data about how visitors use mylifehistory.xyz — including which pages are visited, how long sessions last, and general geographic region (country-level only). This data helps us understand what's working and where we can improve the site and app experience. GA4 analytics cookies are set by Google, a third party. You can opt out of GA4 at any time — see the "Opting Out of Analytics" section below.

Preference Storage

When you dismiss our cookie notice by clicking "Got it", we store your preference in your browser's localStorage (not a traditional cookie, but a similar browser storage mechanism) so that the notice does not reappear on future visits. This storage is local to your browser and is not transmitted to our servers.

3. Third-Party Cookies

The only third-party cookies on mylifehistory.xyz are set by Google Analytics (GA4) as described above. We do not use:

  • Advertising or retargeting cookies
  • Social media tracking pixels (Facebook Pixel, Twitter Pixel, etc.)
  • Any other third-party tracking or analytics services

4. Managing Cookies

You can control and manage cookies through your browser settings. Most modern browsers allow you to:

  • View which cookies have been set and when they expire
  • Delete specific cookies or all cookies
  • Block cookies from specific sites or all sites
  • Set your browser to notify you before a cookie is placed

Please note: disabling strictly necessary cookies (Amazon Cognito session cookies) will prevent you from signing in to the app at app.mylifehistory.xyz. The marketing site at mylifehistory.xyz will still be accessible. Disabling analytics cookies will not affect your ability to use any feature of the Service.

5. Opting Out of Analytics

To opt out of Google Analytics tracking across all websites you visit:

Alternatively, some browsers support a "Do Not Track" signal. However, the GA4 tag does not currently respond to the "Do Not Track" browser signal — the browser add-on above is the reliable opt-out method for Google Analytics.

You can also delete existing GA4 cookies from your browser at any time using your browser's cookie management tools.

6. GA4 Data Retention

Google Analytics retains user-level and event-level analytics data for 14 months by default. After 14 months, the data is automatically deleted from Google's servers. Aggregated, non-identifiable analytics data (such as total page views or visitor counts with no individual identification) may be retained by Google indefinitely in aggregate reports.

We do not have direct control over Google's data retention beyond the 14-month default setting, which we have confirmed is applied to our GA4 property.
